Hey Dedy,

Thank you for your comments,

Our director wanted our performances of animals to be as 'human-like' as possible in order to highlight that animal farm is an allegory of human based events in Soviet Union Russia.

Because of this, the humans had to be very different from our portrayal of animals. Also, our director wanted to explore what humans would be like through the eyes of animals. We concluded that they would be grotesque, almost robot-like creatures with giant strides, hence the platform shoes and the strange walks.

I hope that answers your question and we are glad you enjoyed the show,

Hi everyone.
i saw the play this morning,in pavia and at the end of the show i wanted to ask something but i had no time for that.
in your opinion the comparaison between the farm and the Russia is useful to teach the communism to the students?
however you did a great job,and i had the fortune to meet Boxter (johhny right?) at the end of the show.
lovely. <3

Teaching Communism
Hi Chiara,

Thank you for your question.

I think this play/novel is a very useful tool to approach teaching aspects of politics to students - particularly in respect of Communism. Orwell wrote the allegory in such an accessible way to demonstrate in the simplest way possible the reality of the situation in Russia. The story is very basic but very honest and really highlights how easy it is for those in power to become corrupt and how hard it is for the masses to stand against that power once it has become corrupted. Each character in the story represents real historical figures during the Russian Revolution but those characters are also generic figures ie. Squealer - the go between and persuader, Napoleon - the charismatic leader, Snowball - the brains & speaker, Moses - religion. There are so many aspects of the book that are direct political references that it really is an ideal tool for teaching in politics.

I hope that answers your question!

Many thanks

Rayyah
